Description: Brooklyn, New York criminal defense lawyer represented the Defendant charged with first-degree murder.

Malik Bacchus, 23, of Crown Heights, stole a car from a food delivery driver and opened fire on Shamell Boomer, an alleged member of a rival gang. The killing sparked a string of retaliatory shootings by the Woo and Choo street gangs, with some using the tagline of "Boomin' for Boomer" on social media. Many of those acts of violence were exposed in a gang indictment announced last year. "This murder and the violent retaliation it sparked is another example of the pervasive cycle of gang violence that is destroying too many young lives in Brooklyn," DA Gonzalez said. "I am committed to holding accountable those responsible for shootings, and, as in this terrible instance, shooting deaths that endanger all Brooklynites.”

Outcome: Defendant was sentenced to 23 years to life in prison.
